Movesense HR2 is the basic Movesense sensor and the least expensive way to equip a garment. It measures acceleration and rotation over the same ranges, and at the same 52 Hz rate, that the analyses use. What it lacks is memory for a whole session: like the MD model, it streams to the phone during the recording.

With NAPPA this sensor does not need to stream. For sleep recordings the sensor computes the sleep measures itself and stores them, and the published NAPPA studies logged three 12-hour nights in this memory before downloading (Heliyon 2024). Streaming is needed for MAIJU, which records the raw movement signal.

When to choose it

HR2 suits recordings where someone can keep the phone or tablet close to the infant for the whole session — a supervised visit, a lab session, a home recording with a researcher present — and where cost matters. For unsupervised recordings at home we recommend Movesense Flash: with a streaming sensor, the phone has to stay within Bluetooth range, in practice in the same room, and in the largest published MAIJU dataset a lost connection was the most common reason a home recording failed (Science Translational Medicine 2026).

HR2 is sold for fitness and wellness use and is not a medical device. If a study requires a certified sensor, choose Movesense MD.

In use

  1. Prepare. Check the battery level of each sensor in Tessalogger, and replace the coin cell if it is low.
  2. Record. Clip the sensors into the garment in the orientation the instructions show, start the recording, and keep the phone or tablet in the same room throughout.
  3. Collect. The data is already on the phone when the session ends, ready to export or upload for analysis.

The sensor also carries a magnetometer and heart-rate and ECG functions, which Momega's garments and analyses do not use. Specifications are from Movesense; see the garments page for how the sensor models compare.
